Learning to Fly
Pink Floyd
Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction holding me fast
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted
Just an earth-bound misfit, I am
Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted
Just an earth-bound misfit, I am
Friction lock, set
Mixture, rich
Propellers, fully forward
Flaps, set, 10 degrees
Engine gauges and suction, check
Mixture set to maximum percent, recheck
Altimeters, check both
Navigation lights, on
Strobes, on
Confirm 3-8-Echo ready for departure
Hello again, this is now 129.4
129.4. It's to go.
You may commence your takeoff, winds over 10 knots
3-8-Echo
Easy on the brakes
Take it easy
It's gonna roll this time
Just hand the power gradually, and it...
Above the planet on a wing and a prayer
My grubby halo, a vapor trail in the empty air
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night
There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss
Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted
Just an earth-bound misfit, I am
Y una vez más, gracias a todos los que han pasado por aquí y los que pasarán.

This Side of Cruelty (Songs by U2)
Please read while listening to:
"So Cruel" and "Luminous Times (Hold on to Love)", both by U2.
One of the most terrible incarnations of human cruelty is love.
This is not a universal truth, as Jane Austen would say. Yet, it is true in many cases. There's love as a creative force (metaphorically and baby-speaking). In mythology, gods fell in love and created new things.
Yet, there are the destructive powers of love. It was love that brought Troy down. It was love that killed Romeo and Juliet. It is love that, when unanswered, will tear you apart.
"You say in love there are no rules/oh love, sweetheart/you're so cruel."
In love there are no rules. That's what makes it dangerous. There used to be no rules in war either, but that's why, in our modern times, we have committees and alliances and things like that. Because you can't have a war without rules anymore. It would slip out of mankind's hands. But love doesn't have committees, or UN. So, it slips from our hands. It makes us fall in obvious traps. It makes us run through mined fields, blindfolded.
But you can't get rid of it. "You need her like a drug." Love becomes an impervious need, love sticks deep inside your soul. Suddenly, there is no need of the person, not even what you would call an obsession, but the simple need to love, and be loved (or have the impression you're loved), the need of the feeling: "I love you cause I need to/not because I need you..." The fear of loneliness, love's secret weapon, strikes, with no fear of missing its target. It's doom. It's fate. You will have to redeem this love, or everything will become dust.
Love creates. Love kills. This world will be swallowed by its terrible command.
The soundtrack:
"So Cruel" from the album Achtung Baby
"Luminous Times (Hold on to Love)" from the limited B-sides edition of The Best of 1980-1990, or The Joshua Tree limited edition.
